BRATISLAVA (FIBA U19 Championship for women) - The Ivory Coast’s Under-19 women’s team were on the receiving end of a 95-25 spanking from their USA counterparts on day one of the FIBA World Championship for that age group.
The USA raced out to a 30-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and continued to pummel their opponents for the remainder of the game.
Krystal Thomas led the way with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Americans who eased up a little as the game went on but still dominated.
They finished the game with a 12-0 run against their inexperienced opponents.
Thomas had excellent support from Angela Bjorklund and Jantel Lavender who both contributed 13 points with Maya Moore (11 points and eight boards) also made a double digit contribution.
Kani Kouyate was the only Ivory Coast player to reach double figures with 10 points and nine rebounds whole Maimounatou Kolga poured in nine for the west Africans in the Group B fixture.
The quarter scores were 30-5, 21-5, 22-8 and 22-7.
